Fantastic Duoclean is my new girlfriend -- which can also handle our thick pile / plush carpet.
This is the real deal. IN fact my wife calls it my new girlfriend, because I like it so much. In fact, we are spending a lot of time together. Over the last 5 years and again this year ... we got new carpet installed in our > 5000 SF home ... which is about half hardwoods and half carpet ... but the new carpet was thicker, certainly very nice, but the old Hoover got bogged down in it ... and even our long time sharp (similar to a classic panasonic vac) all struggled trying to get through it. We had to find a vacuum that could handle the carpet, and we did !!!During my exhaustive research of vacuums, reading all the reviews both good and bad ... it seemed almost all of them tended to do poorly in the high pile / plush carpet ... but this one finally stood out. In fairness, this, and the minimalist Oreck Magnesium. I checked out consumer reports and this one has the highest rating of all the stick vacuums and also higher than any of the uprights, which I was used to using. So I decided to try out the shark instead of the Oreck because it looked a lot more versitile and similarly lightweight. So when our shark arrived, which is the latest 2017 HV382 (basically a HV380 with $99 additional true pet attachments kit). I have used the true pet motorized attachment on the stairs and found it to be average (I prefer the main sweeper head instead) ... but when I used the truepet attachment in the car -- I found it to perform exceptionally well. I then switched to the combo crevice tool and it worked great on the places I could not reach ... and in no time, my wife' minivan floors looked so clean. Now I'll admit, out of the box I was surprised how LITTLE this vacuum is, even the main motorized brush unit. So my wife and I were both pretty skeptical that this little vac could handle our over 5000 SF home and its mix of hardwoords, throw rugs, and both low and a lot of newer high pile plush carpeting. Even consumer reports seem to indicate that most vacuums didn't handle the high pile plush stuff well.So I went straight to work on the carpet test ... trying it out first on an IKEA throw rug which was thick green shag ... and wow, it worked great. I did use the 1 setting and not the 2 (higher power) setting. When you use the 1 setting, the brushes spin slower, but suction is still 100%.So then to our brand new carpet in the living room and office ... worked awesome there also !Then downstairs to our very high end carpet frieze carpet -- and it handled it great also. I was used the 2 setting on everything except the super thick throw rugs. All worked great.I found doing the steps very easy -- this thing weighs so little, that its easy to do the stairs using various configuration of the vac ... depending on how much or how little you want to carry. Every using the main brush, this thing is super easy on the stairs to use.One last thing, the DUOCLEAN thing -- it's probably my favorite feature. Its a little roller at the front of the main vacuum brush attachment and it sucks stuff right off the hardwoods like you can't believe! I also found it seems to work quite well on stairs, getting the stuff between the floor and the riser that you can never get with any vacuum I've every owned, till now!The last thing that totally rocks on this vac -- is the ease of getting to the beater brush to remove hair. This is so well engineered I just enjoy using it, gross as that sounds. The lights on both the main unit and the beater brush part -- work great and allow you to vacuum in the car or dark rooms without any lights on. Its awesome actually how well those led lights work. The unit is easy to empty out, does get fairly full fairly fast .. .but wow, its so well designed that you don't get very dirty emptying it ... which was a concern of mine, but they made it super easy to dump over a trashcan and move on ... no more bags ever !!This is the real deal. I found you can get it online sometimes without the true pet motorized head ... saves like $100 ... but the true pet is a good attachment, so probably worth it in the end.

Update - Over a year now since i have bough this vaccum. It works great without any decrease in performance. I have been using it mostly once or twice in a week for the last few months though used it more frequently initially.

Update after 8 months - the vacuum has been doing really great with no decrease in performance. I think I have already got the worth of my money now with convenience and quality of cleaning. This has no doubt been my best purchase on Amazon.

Original review - Firstly I have now been using this vacuum for almost a month now. I do not write reviews often. But this vacuum cleaner has compelled me to write the feedback. Perhaps the reason being that i myself went through hundreds of reviews from verified purchases before finalizing this one.
I have used only 1 vacuum cleaner before - a Bissell Powerforce so i cant do a comparisons with other high end vacuum cleaners here.
One of the main reasons i looked to buy a new vacuum cleaner was that i am lazy and to add to it i also found the old vacuum cleaner clumsy and now i have a baby who is old enough to make things messier :-). I had to move stuff all around when using my old vacuum cleaner as i most of the dirt and stuff would be in narrow spaces like under the table between the chairs or within the narrow gap between two couches. It was hard work to get the vacuum cleaning done with the old vacuum and the house would get messed up pretty soon. It would be an effort to force myself to get up and vacuum the house. Also the vacuum need to be done multiple times sometimes as the suction was that great. Well now that i have given a description of the problem i am happy to say that this vacuum has solved my all my problems.

When i started looking for vacuums on amazon i was looking for a decent price, good light and portable vacuum. This vacuum gives it all. I have been very satisfied using it and it pretty light and portable. To be honest i often clean my house almost 3 times a week as i don't like it messy and cleaning is so easy thanks to this vacuum. Its very easy to modify the attachments. I also do not need to move stuff around in my house as the vacuum goes in everywhere and with its high suction it picks up stuff really well. there are two modes for carpet low and high which wont increase the suction but increase the speed of the rollers which is very effective. every part of the vacuum can be easily removed and reassembled and it is very easy to clean the vacuum itself. there is a tool to remove the hairs from the brush as well which i consider as one of the best thing. I really think my older vacuums performance got impacted because of all the threads and hairs entangled in the brush and its a pain to clean it. The vacuum also works really good on plain floor.

Couple of things - in a couple reviews i read that the vacuum seemed to stop working after a few months. this made me a little hesitant to buy but i saw such reviews on almost all the vacuums so i really guess it a bit of bad luck if you get a bad device. As of now i find this vacuum to be pretty sturdy.
secondly people have mentioned that this vacuum does not stand on its own which i don't find any issue its very easy to just lay this on the floor or rest against the wall.
One more thing to add that this vacuum gives portability quite similar to a cordless vacuum with many advantages over cordless vacuum like high suction and no limited cleaning time between charges which cordless vacuum have.
finally and perhaps the main thing to consider is that this is top heavy and people have mentioned that it will be a problem to operate if you have medical conditions like arthritis. Its true that it is top heavy though i still find it pretty light but definitely a consideration to make if you have such issues

Overall i love this vacuum. my wife seems to hate this fact ;-) but i am sure she is glad that i bought this one

I will definitely come back and add more if this breaks or if i find any issues. otherwise assume the vacuum is doing pretty great to date :-) .

Also the box it was packaged in was very good and instructions (if you require them) were easy to follow. After use and test areas and places of use comparing to my powerful upright, I find the stick so easy to use with loads of suction. Head pivots so easily. So perfect for hard floor surfaces, it gets all the floor stuff - fine dust and everything else and does not shoot it off anywhere - it really shines here, but it also does a high powered job on carpet too...just as good as my high suction upright vacuum that was not too hard surface friendly - hence the new stick as I got tired of sweeping flooring. Oh, and it perfectly vacuums my yoga mat...like a dream. I like the size of the power head and the swivel. When vacuuming you can watch anything in its path get drawn into the head even before it gets to it....that is suction. This is another reason I chose a corded stick over a power pack, charging stick model. While the cord will always be a 'cord' and get in the way at times, power and suction remain high and you have no worries of when you will be losing power. The power cord is quite long too - 2 plug ins does my whole floor of 1500 sq ft. I like the ease of switching to the hand held at any time, as well as the ease of changing tools for either mode. It breaks apart for easy storage onto its self, or it can be wall mounted. I feel the manufacturers have thought of pretty much every use option and made each user friendly. It came with the full complement of attachments including a long wand to get under appliances or further under furniture. Also a small rotating brush attachment for stairs, etc. I was pleased with the price also when comparing to other more expensive sticks on the market. It comes with a 5 yr limited warranty and looks pretty solidly built overall.

My only 'con' comments would be the hand held alone is a little on the weighty side (so you need to have average hand mobility and strength) and the full upright does not stand up on itself....but for me both of these are minor compared to all that it is and does. It will stand up on its own when the hand held is removed and attached below in storage mode. For me I am going to mount it full length handing in a closet.

My three priorities in purchasing a stick were - had to be powerful with the ability to get the very fine floor dust and not send other 'bits' shooting all over the place.....and this stick accomplishes all three extremely well. So, my upright vacuum just got a holiday as I really can't see myself using it much anymore for anything as this stick is capable of doing it all so easily and much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's been over a year and it is still working great.

It's been over a year and it is working great. It's the best one we have purchased so far. We previously had the Bissell pet hoover and that was OK, this is much better. Can't compare to the Dyson since we've never owned one. I like how we can wash the filters and the canister. They did put thought into this vacuum. It is pretty powerful, great suction. We have thick carpet, rugs, vinyl and 2 furry cats. It is amazing how much dirt, fur, cat toys, and dust it collects. Able between chair legs, under the bed, the sofa. the extensions are good too and ability to make it shorter works great for sofa and cat towers. Overall it's a great purchase. Can be a bit noisy but don't mind since it works great. Cable is long enough to reach everywhere. The lights are useful to see under the bed etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's heavier than expected

This stick vac is a winner!!! I'm glad I gave up my Dyson. Powerful suction and great maneuverability. This machine means business. Terrific on wood floors and area rugs. The power head is a little difficult to manage stairs. It only came with 2 attachments. A duster attachment is what's lacking, but overall, a good product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful vacuum, even for carpet

This vacuum is amazing! Well worth the money.
Only downside is that hair gets tangled in the roller very easily. If you have a household with a lot of hair, and long hair, you will likely need to thoroughly clean the roller in the vacuum after every use. There is a little brush hidden in the roller to be able to do this.

Otherwise a great vacuum. Has a light in it to see where you are vaccumung. Works well in carpet! Better than an old upright vacuum we had.

The extra roller are the front is great. Not like other vacuums where the dust can get everywhrre, the extra front roller keeps everything in place to suck is up so less dust in the air. Great for my allergies.

10/10 would buy again. Several people I know also have them and rave about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great vacuum for 18 months then broke but Customer Service was great UPDATED

UPDATE: After talking to customer service a second time, I was able to order my replacement part from the Canadian warehouse at a discount so the total cost to me was not as high as previously stated. I would definitely recommend this vacuum and the Shark company was good to work with.
If you want to spend several hundred dollars on a vacuum every couple of years, then buy this one. It's an excellent vacuum, I LOVED it... until it stopped working. I regularly changed the filters and cleaned the brushes, etc. I wanted this thing to LAST, it was a good one. Then one day it lost its suction and upon close inspection I saw that part of the hose, close to the brush head unit, had split and separated from the brush head unit, making it not an air tight system anymore. This sort of thing was not caused by my mistreatment of the vacuum, it simply just wore out and split. I called Shark, and was told that it falls under regular wear and tear and that they would not replace it. I'm now having to buy a new brush head unit for $75US, which with exchange and shipping is going to be a lot more Canadian. I wish I could have given this vacuum 5 stars, I really love it. But there is obviously a design flaw here that makes it so that it doesn't last more than 18 months. Sigh.... appliances these days don't last.
