About Cafe Du Monde

The Original Cafe Du Monde Coffee Stand was established in 1862 in the New Orleans French Market. The Original Cafe Du Monde is a traditional coffee shop. Its menu consists of dark roasted Coffee and Chicory, Beignets, White and Chocolate Milk, and fresh squeezed Orange Juice. The coffee is served Black or Au Lait. Au Lait means that it is mixed half and half with hot milk. Beignets are square French - style doughnuts, lavishly covered with powdered sugar. In 1988 Iced Coffee was introduced to the cafe. Soft drinks also made their debut that year. The Cafe Du Monde Coffee Stand is owned by the Fernandez family. Hubert Fernandez bought the Coffee Stand in May 1942 from Fred Koeniger. At that time Mr. Fernandez owned the Fernandez Wine Cellar. In 1972, The Fernandez family closed the Wine Cellar in order to devote their energies to the Cafe Du Monde.

I lean towards the dark roast side when it comes to coffee, and I like to drink my coffee black. When I initially tried this coffee I heard a lot about it, I didn't love it immediately in fact I would arguably say I didn't like it at first.

However, over time it really grew on me. I like to have this as a secondary option in my cabinet for the times where I just want something different.

Before I didn't like the smell, now I kind of do, and I didn't like the taste so much, but now I get in the mood for it.

You know when you drink the same thing everyday, sometimes you want to mix things up and it's definitely different. I didn't even know what chicory was before I bought this, but now I have a sort of appreciation for it.

I give it five stars, because it breaks up the redundancy I'm having the same kind of coffee all the time, it has a completely unique flavor profile, and I do enjoy it. Plus when I have guests over I give him a unique option and it's always an interesting talking point.
