I can't believe I held onto the one this replaced for 2 years cleaning and cleaning and trying to stay ahead of the red gunk that was building up in unreachable places and having to listen to its "motor" whine for 10 minutes after turning it on until it stabilized. Water was constantly all over the place from filling because the unstable round base.
That old one was a 'Walgreen's' brand but it looked just like all those rounded-top, clear-blue-tanked ones I see online. That one required a lot of my time. Though it held about 1.25 gal of H2O, I still had to fill it every day, even on the lowest setting. It was a big chore keeping gallon jugs from the kitchen water-purifier spigot filled and balancing the top upside down with one hand while pouring the jug in with the other hand was exacting. When I didn't have it perfect, the cushion I balanced it in on would get soaked -- A cushioned chair was needed because the was no way to balance it upside down on a hard surface. (I think maybe they curved it thinking it would fit into peoples' rounded bathroom sinks, but they didn't write that anywhere, I guess figuring they'd lose the purchases by flat-sinked people.
It was a sinus emergency when I bought the Walgreen's one off the shelf, so I didn't even consider the filling method. But PLEASE USE FILL METHOD AS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR IN MAKING YOUR DECISION. I'm so tired of all the puffery used in product listings and having to read 20 reviews to get the real idea of how a product works, looks and performs. Sometimes it's not that they're a lies, it's that important things are omitted.
I know this one is a lot to read and I don't have great self-editing skills, so please let me know whether you find this TMI or good by voting it helpful (or not). I try to write reviews only where something about a product has surprised me positively and avoid negative reviews unless absolutely necessary.
So now on to this NEW LEVOIT. It's night and day compared to the old one I ignorantly held onto for 2 yrs, thinking I was being frugal! It's flat on the top, which becomes the bottom when filling, holds the same 1.25 gal, but lasted 25 hrs longer than the old with a great stream of mist!. (I saw little water beads on the spout but they never amounted to anything and weren't even there the next day-- The instructions say I may have tilted it carrying it in the base after it was first filled. Unlike the old one, all the pieces of the mist delivery system come off so they can easily be cleaned, even down into the "mist tube." It's completely silent. It cost less. Unlike the Walgreen's one, you can use essential oil, it has a small footprint, and it has spectacular care instructions, and inside was a 1-yr warranty card.
I know they change the prices on these things, but this was on special and I am glad I didn't go for the higher-end model(s)-- No need for digital display. Touch the button once for low, 2x for med, and 3x for high; hold it down to turn nightlight on or off, and no you do not need to see inside the tank from across the room; that same, one little workhorse button turns red when empty.
I'm getting back a good hour a week of my time with this Levoit. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

looks good and seems to do the job
We needed a humidifier to increase the RH of a small room where we keep a couple of stringed instruments. We selected this one for the (1) appearance, (2) reviews and (3) price.The humidifier is pretty small, and only holds about 1 gallon of water, so we are refilling it at least once a day, sometimes twice.To fill the unit you need to remove a small nozzle and put it aside, then remove reservoir (in both cases, a 2-second actions). Unfortunately the bottom of the reservoir sits in the base which is filled with water, so it is wet. This means inverting the reservoir and carrying it carefully if you are concerned with dripping water on the floor, as we are.The inverted reservoir can then be placed on a counter, the fill-cap unscrewed, and water can be poured in. We use distilled water to minimize the minerals that the ultrasonic atomized puts into the air. (Breathing these minerals long-term is probably not a good idea. And they coat everything with a white film.) Because a bead of water sometimes forms on the top and then drips down the side, I place the unit in a water-tight bin. Depending on the floor material, this might not be needed in your application.There are three mist rates - the fastest empties the reservoir in half a day.The unit is close to silent, so would work in a bedroom.So far I am pleased with the product.
