The robot has a great finish and looks like made with a quality material. The quick start guide was very easy to follow and I downloaded the ECOVACS home iOS app after scanning the barcode on the robot.
Followed the instructions on the app and connected to the wifi. It only works with 2.5 GHz wifi frequency. I have an Apple router and it has both 2.5 and 5 GHz so got connected within seconds. 2.5 GHz can penetrate the walls better than 5 GHz and the robot needs wifi connection to do its job therefore ECOVACS supports only 2.5GHz.
The first cleaning cycle created a complete map of the house. The map is very accurate and you can see the robot inside the app moving on the floor in real-time. There are lot of features in the app. Following options are available in the app for starting the cleaning cycle.
Auto: it cleans the whole house in a single cycle.
Custom: you can create a custom area on the map with your fingers and it cleans only that area. I use this feature to clean a hallway entrance which gets dirty with the dirt from footwear. You can use whatever custom area you need and get it cleaned.
Area: To use this feature you need to first divide your home into different rooms or sections and then you can just select that area or areas and it will clean in the selected orders. E.g. I have created areas like living room, dining area, kitchen, kid’s rooms, bedroom, bath, etc.
It also has a mopping capability and the way ECOVACS has designed it is really worth appreciating. It comes with a small water tank to which a mopping plate can be attached with a cleaning cloth. The whole assembly of water tank along with the mopping plate and it’s cleaning cloth can be snapped under the robot while doing a vacuum on hard floor. The mopping feature is obviously only relevant for hard floors so the robot doesn’t go on the carpet once it has mopping plate installed. My house is mostly carpet with tile floor in the kitchen and bathroom. So usually I keep mopping plate removed from the robot and let it vacuum the carpet area first. Whenever I need to clean the hard floor, the robot can be summoned to that area and mopping plate along with water tank can be snapped in once the robot arrives in that area. It needs to be paused for the same and then cleaning can be resumed once the water tank along with the mopping plate is snapped in. The water output can be controlled through the app.
Coming to the most important task of vacuuming, the suction is powerful and it’s able to suck all the dust and debris from the carpet or hard floor. The robot automatically adjusts the suction power for carpet vs hard floor. It navigates along the selected area in a systematic way. First it does the cleaning around the walls or edges and then goes in straight lines covering the selected area. I haven’t experienced any missing spot so far. The app has a feature to schedule cleaning for different areas in a given sequence.
The dust container is enough if you are cleaning 2-3 times a week else you may need to empty the container during the cleaning cycle. The cleaning can be paused and resumed again either from the button on the robot or from the app.
It has a strong battery which can run for 110 minutes. If it runs out during cleaning, the robot goes to the charger and once fully charged resumes the cleaning exactly from the same spot.
I experienced an excellent service from ECOVACS support team. If you have any specific questions or issues support team can be contacted through chat or message function from the app itself and I got prompt response from them.
The only problem you may face if you have a floor with black design or so. I have a area rug which has a black borders and it was avoiding that area because the sensors thought it has a step. The support team suggested to put an aluminum foil over the sensors and that worked. Since I don’t have any steps it works for me. However, it can be issue.
The robot also provide audio feedback while cleaning. It works with Alexa or google home too . I have an apple HomePod so haven’t used this feature. Hope ECOVACS can provide support for Siri/ Apple home as well.
Overall my experience is very good with this model which has saved me and my wife from pain of vacuuming on our own. The house is getting cleaned more frequently and it feels great.
Thank you ECOVACS and Amazon!
Do not look for any other robot vacuum just buy this one.
We've had this robot for about a year now. Overall we're happy with the purchase. Time will tell if we continue to feel that way. We've noticed some wear and tear. Specifically, the laser has had some issues and caused it to not do its regular cleaning. The fix? Tap the top... I also cleaned it out with the little brush that's inside the device. It's working for now.
We do everything we can to avoid losing the map. It takes about a week for it to correctly rebuild it because it never works the first try and the area is large. The first recommendation by customer service when there's an issue is to reset her, which means losing the map. Uh, no. What I do when she gets messed up, confused, builds the map wrong, or just about any other complaint that she has, I grab her on the back end and trap her/spin her until she stops and says she's confused. Then I turn her off. I wait a minute and turn her back on. She'll say, relocating, and will usually get it right. If I don't mess with her and only turn her off then on, she doesn't relocate herself well and won't accurately reset the map. She frequently messes up the map, so now that I know how to fix it, it's a little better. But, she seems to have an increasing number of errors or issues lately. So, like I said, we'll keep an eye on her and hope she lasts at last a few years.
Original review 12-2-2019:
We purchased this on sale on cyber Monday. We have a large kitchen that needs daily vacuuming. Our last old roomba a was loud and clunky. It banged into everything. This vacuum is quiet in comparison and gentle on chair legs and walls. We absolutely love the advanced mapping. It allows us to use virtual barriers and areas. Until our first map is complete we use custom area to get it to clean where the kids eat. You’ll see real use run time vs square footage in the image. We don’t get a full clean of our first floor on one charge but it tells us when it goes to the charger what it’s doing and then will resume once it’s charged. The image is when it had just run out of battery and was returning to the charger.
1st Update: It took several days to make our map. We learned you can't move the base station after making the map. If you do, delete the existing one and redo. We, like others, put up our chairs on table tops and removed every stray object from the floor so the robot would have fewer objects to go around. This increased the speed it moved. It still took one full run + one full charge + another partial run to do the map. The first time it went through this sequence after we moved the base station it drew the map going Northeast instead of North-South. This created two overlapping maps going two different directions which meant the robot was confused and had no idea where it was, nor could it find the base station. After giving it time to sort it out, I picked it up and brought it back to the charger, deleted the map and started over. Second time we ran through this sequence it worked and we were able to save the map. I was then able to subdivide some of the areas into rooms. We have large open spaces and when attempting to divide our kitchen into a dining/living/kitchen area it kept saying I needed to divide only one space at a time. I was. I couldn't get it to work despite trying to create it various ways.

Update: This vacuum has a lot of options when you hook it up to the app, so I came back to give it 1 more star.
Original review: This vacuum isn't 450 bucks worth of vacuum, but I've already used it so I'd feel bad sending it back. Also, I couldn't find many options on the payment plan and I couldn't fix my old Deebot anymore. So, I decided to try this one with the mop feature out. Here are my takeaways from this robot.
Pros:
-it announces why it is stopped. (Wheels jammed, brush tangled, etc.)
-it finds its home easily.
-easy to clean.
-comes with extra accessories.
Cons:
-NO REMOTE! I live in the country and do not have WiFi to use the app as a remote. I did not realize it had no remote when I ordered it. Over sight on my part, but I just assumed it would have one.
-so noisy. It is NOT an upgrade in this department. A cheaper one will be just as loud, or quiet?, as this one.
-door on dust bin jams open, and contents keeps falling back out (even when not full.) The door is very flimsy and the whole set up just seems off.
-tries to run over large objects frequently (high chair legs).
-the mop feature is not very impressive. Sometimes it works and sometimes I have to "prime" the little pump thing on the reservoir.
-it seems to miss a lot of stuff. I feel like I run it twice as often as my cheaper Deebot and get lesser results.
So, if you are wanting a robot vacuum, I say stick with the cheaper Ecovacs. If you want one today on a payment plan with a mop (like I did) then this will at least meet that criteria.
