Note I haven't used the app yet, because I haven't really had to. But it's there, and it can tweak things like the LED's and enables features like pairing with another Flare+ for stereo sound (which is something I plan to move to).
I originally bought this to use in my car which was having speaker problems and in general, due to it's age, wasn't very clear on the sound since it still had what I believe were the stock speakers. Despite having a hard time finding a place to put it where it would evenly distribute the waves (the rubber bottom helped though) it actually did a good job filling up my car with sound, even with the fact it had a muffler modification that made it sound way too loud (PT Cruiser, make fun of me if you want). Car is gone now so I just use it for things like shower music or even a computer speaker.
And that's really the crux of this thing, it's a damn good, versatile device. No, it doesn't have the best sound ever but for the price, it delivers full, powerful sound that honestly does the source justice for the most part. I listen to a lot of ridiculous heavy metal like Infant Annihilator, and I can hear and feel a little bit of punchiness on the kick pedals, on top of getting a good deep sound with the intense vocals. I can sync it with my phone super easy, but also I can plug it into my PC tower and get a competent PC speaker when I don't feel like using my Sennheisers (say I have a guest and I want to share a video or music).
With the potential of a dual stereo setup, I feel like that has the potential for a solid speaker setup for a television or computer if you lack a sound bar or speaker kit.
Of course these are only like 25W drivers so it's not the most powerful sound, but it does the lower end justice and you can still hear a good range of the sound. Another metal album I listened to was the first album of Northlane, and it sounded solid on this speaker. I've also listened to the album on HD 518's, inside a Nissan Altima, inside my new car, and a pair of m50x's, so I have a range of comparisons for quality. Basically it's not as high quality as the headphones, but the album sounded sick while I took a shower. Note it has some water resistance and a good build quality. I don't know the rating but leaving it in the bathroom for a while had no problems, and it gets steamy in there.
Buy it. It's flashy and versatile. While I cannot speak for the stereo setup, the Flares seemed to do that well in the reviews I had seen so I can only imagine the Flare+ steps it up a bit. I intend to eventually buy another to have a semi-permanent speaker solution for my PC.
This speaker Is loud and produces crisp highs, accurate mids and deep base, projecting quality sound in a 360 degree sound field. The default EQ settings are more than adequate for pop and beat drops. This speaker performs excellent at higher volumes and doesn’t distort. At lower volumes the Flare+ sounds clear and average for a speaker in this price range. The Flare+ is built to perform at higher volumes making this speaker a true competitor against speakers costing more.
Pairing speakers will create a stereo soundstage making this a true party system filling a room and more than adequate for outdoor use.
Pros:
•Quality feel, construction and durability
•Loud and accurate soundstage at higher volumes
•Deep Bass at higher volumes
•Customized Light settings and app
•Can pair with another Flare+
Cons:
•Sounds ordinary for a speaker in this price range at lower volume settings.
A few cons that hopefully can be remedied with a firmware upgrade.
• Need additional EQ settings to optimize Metal and rock genres or a custome EQ mode.
• No voice integration when using Alexa. Note you can skip and pause music via top mounted button.
My final thoughts on this purchase is total satisfaction and I will definitely purchase another Flare+.
Update 9/6/18
I ordered another Flare+ and currently pairing the two speakers.
Set up was easy and paired successfully.
I was getting an occasional skipping and pause, so I restarted my phone and paired the speakers again seems to be working no problems.
The stereo mode sounds clear with full bass. The bass is not ‘muddy’, the result is a clear medley of mids, highs and deep full bass. Where this system excels is at higher volumes, the bass is more pronounced and distortion free at all levels.
Purchasing two Flare pluses will cost $200 and is well worth the price considering that this is truly portable and produces a stereo soundstage, 20 hours of playtime, IPX7 waterproof rating, battery bank and added light feature not to mention it’s durable construction will survive drops.
Like all speakers, placement is important, find that sweet spot and the bass becomes more pronounced.
Note: Adjust EQ settings in Spotify if you’re using that service.
I would recommend this purchase, it performs as advertised and sounds excellent in both paired and single mode.

What a great bluetooth speaker ! Only had it a few days now but bass response is so much better than another (much cheaper) make had. The light show, well I can take it or leave it. I'm not into that sort of thing (it can be switched off).
The weight, well it's portable but not something I'd take on a trip (out of country) paired with my cell.
I am really pleased so far.
UPDATE AUG 20 2020- still performing flawlessly. Discovered there is an app in playstore (android) (and I assume for apple) that prompted me to get a firmware update. Takes a minute or two to dl/install.
This unit performs above my expectations!
Update Aug 30 2020 --Well, this is not a good update. Ever since I updated the firmware, the battery life is really bad. Before the update, it would last at least a week if not 2 weeks. AFTER the update, I have to charge it every day. I don't believe it's 20 hr battery life after the update. To be honest, I have not timed it but I have never had to charge every day.
Downgraded to 3 star because of this.
UPDATE SEPT 4 2020
Well, I've upgraded this review back to a 5 due to the EXCELLENT customer service received from Anker. I wrote them regarding the suddenly degraded battery life (after I did a firmware update, battery life went from 100% to 30% over 6 hours.
They responded by sending me a replacement unit IMMEIDATELY. Now, I don't know if it was because of the firmware update but I know that cell phones can experience that sort of issue after firmware updates.
The only issue: I still need to receive a shipping label from them to return the now-deficient speaker.
Way to go Anker!
UPDATE SEPT 8 2020 First of all, I received a replacement speaker (no mailing label so you have to make your own when returning the defective speaker-Anker will refund shipping charges) .
SO, I did a battery test on both units:
Original speaker : because of a firmware update (notified by the android app), the battery life was really bad (mid volume level and strobe):
9 am 100%
11.10 am 80%
3.17 pm 30%
and now that I received the replacement speaker ( I did NOT do the firmware update):
10 am 100%
12 pm 100%
2.30 pm 100%
4.0 pm 80%
5.30 pm 80% and off
11 am (next day) 80%
1.20 pm 80%
3.20pm 80%
Both of the above tests done at an easy-listening level (40%?) and light show "on".
My suggestion is : don't do the firmware update at this time.
Overall: customer service is great. I still love this speaker.
Sept 9 2020
Received email from Amazon my c.c. will be credited (Anker's instructions to them) for shipping unit back to Anker. They told me their engineer will look into the firmware update issue I told them about. It's for loss of bluetooth signal so if you don't experience that, don't do the update. They also said that if it is the firmware, it will be fixed.
This is a great speaker IMO and Anker CSR stay with you if you have any issues with this product.
-Punchy sound for such a compact speaker
-Full waterproofing mitigates poolside disasters
-Well-designed, easy to use smartphone app
Cons:
-Priced a little on the high side
-Clunky voice control compared to smart speakers
Anker's Soundcore Flare is a portable waterproof speaker — fully submergible in water, no less, so you’re safe if some idiot kicks it into your swimming pool at one of your many pool parties. Lucky you.
That aside, this is a Bluetooth enabled, wireless, rechargeable speaker whose key features include relatively rich sound, a ‘soundstage’ mode and its ‘beat-driven light show’. That’s basically a multi-colour ring of light at the bottom of the cylinder that can be programmed, via a smartphone app, between a calming single-colour glow and a technicolour flash dance. It’s a nice touch, albeit a novelty.
There’s a good chance you’re looking at this simply because you want a reasonably priced and compact external speaker for your phone or MP3 player, with decent sound quality and battery life. If that is the case, this is a satisfying little unit whose build quality, portability, battery life, ease of use and surprisingly punchy sound make it easy to recommend.
The waterproofing is an excellent feature for peace of mind too. Being able to take calls feels more like a bonus feature than a deal breaker.
I really wish there was a USB type-C charging port here. We’re already towards the end of 2019 and the USB type-C standard has been popular for nearly three years. It’s time to adapt.

El detalle de las luces es espectacular y poder bajar el volumen también desde el altavoz es un acierto , espero que me dure mucho tiempo .
