Basically, you need to know that its like a jigsaw puzzle with images on the top an bottom. The pieces seat together much like a jigsaw, but it had gaps. So the LED will shine through those gaps unless you take measures to plug the seams. Every piece has only two sides. The ropes and the cannons arent round, and there will be a visible sandwich effect on each piece. The end result is pretty good looking. Im not saying this model is crap, but its not a high quality detailed model, but it isnt horrible either. Just know what you are buying. For the money, I had fun and frustration putting it together.
I said earlier it not really easy. I say that because there are some parts you need to pay attention to while putting it together. Any segment that requires to to place two tabs in one slot is easily damaged, requiring some glue to hold them together. The LED lights on the rear cabin under and the eaves are a real pain. Some of the pieces will loosen during connection, and will require some glue. The seams in the hull where the LEDs shine will probably require a additional seal such as electrical tape to keep the seams from leaking light.
At the end, it looks pretty bad ass in shadow and at a distance in full light. Its large at about 24in X 24in x 8in. Its has its challenging moments to put together. It isnt a high end detail model, but you arent going to need a laundry list of extras to put it together.
Its cheap, fun to put together, looks decent, and you can do a little DIY to improve it marginally.

I felt like most of the time was spent popping out all the extra pieces which I had a huge pile of. For the most part it was fairly easy and the material was quite durable. I did run into some issues.
Sometimes popping out the pieces ripped the paper even if I was being careful. It was usually inside pieces where it wasn't noticed.
The cannons sometimes fell off in certain areas which became frustrating. I had to glue one in place just so I could put the side on.
One time I misread the directions and part needed. I popped out the piece fairly easy and realized it was supposed to be connected to another. It wasn't supposed to be two pieces but one big piece and I hadn't even realized I broke it with how easy it came out. Thankfully it was easy to attach and not noticeable.
The pieces for the lights on the back of the ship didn't stay closed. I tried regular glue in the slots but it still came undone. I got tired of dealing with it so I used a small piece of tape.
Some pieces were hard to bend and I was afraid of breaking. They also didn't always connect together correctly. Sometimes pieces bent when they weren't supposed to which left a crease. None were really noticeable though.
There's pretty much no way to change the batteries without taking off pieces. Also not easiest to turn on and off. The light strings were a bit too long as well.
On the bottom floor piece there was a hole from a piece that was popped out. I don't believe I ever had anything to go into it. I remember looking at the instructions thinking I missed something but it wasn't even shown on the drawing. Not sure what happened there but definitely not noticed either.
As for the instructions, it was pretty easy to understand though at times I had to really look at the drawings to make sure things were right and nothing was missing from a previous step. I do wish it better explained if the number side was supposed to be in or not. I did usually put it inside unless it was obvious it wasn't supposed to. Good news is that if you put a piece wrong it was usually easy to take apart.
I somehow completely missed a couple of things which was in the removable area. I was able to put those pieces in with tweezers. That removable area was kind of a pain though. It's the area I had issues with cannons falling out.
Overall I enjoyed putting it together. I was surprised how I didn't break it especially when I was trying to put in pieces. The pieces do stay together pretty well once in place.
Flying Dutchman
I found this one a bit easier to do than the other ship. I did have some issues with it as well.
I had problems with the bottom pieces connecting. One part I had to put a few pieces together before connecting it to the rest of the ship. Otherwise it left a huge gap.
A few other places I had to do differently to connect as well. Some areas never quite fit together or the connecting pieces popped out.
Had some issues with popping out pieces where it tore the design. One piece ripped badly as in half of it. Thankfully it was a small piece that could be hidden. Ended up ripping a slight spot in a sail too. Be really careful with those.
Near the end, I felt like instructions became cluttered. I wasn't sure where some pieces went and had to change them around later on after figuring out which piece went where.
The sticker pieces were hard to peel at times. Also two of the stickers are labeled wrong. The middle front pieces are switched. Realized when I got to other side that one didn't match design either. Also feel like these should've been done at same time and not later on.
I gotta say the pop out pieces were pretty good at blending in. A few different times I was trying to figure out where a piece went before realizing I didn't pop out the piece. Then there were the netting pieces that popped out which wasn't even shown to be like that. It made partial holes but doesn't look bad.
This ship was my favorite of the two. It can easily be turned on and off unlike the other.
Be patient and gentle when seperating the pieces from the boards, especially the sails. You shouldn't have to use much pressure to connect the pieces. If you do, you've probably got them backward. Flip them around and try again.

Had a couple difficult spots ... Beware the lanterns on the back of the ship, they were very fiddly and I ended up using a little bit of tape to save my sanity. Laying out the wiring as illustrated is also key, otherwise you run into issues with the masts going down their respective holes at the end. BUT overall I loved that there were a couple challenges to be honest, kept me on my toes.
I highly recommend this product, and I'm deciding what to buy next from this company!
