Screaming Buy!

Screaming Buy!
Occasionally there's a product that's such a screaming buy that I hesitate to review it for fear of not being able to buy more at the same low price. This monitor is one such. (This is an unpaid, unsolicited testimonial from an ecstatic buyer (me) of two of these. BTW, I've owned dozens of other monitors.) I originally bought my first one directly from Lenovo a few weeks ago. It was on sale for $200 even. Investigating the monitor before buying it, I called Lenovo sales. The gal I spoke to at their (final) assembly plant in North Carolina was using this very monitor at home as she took my order. She had been using it for months and couldn't sing its praises enough. (This monitor just came out in 2020.) BTW, I'm guessing the PC boards and LCD panel are probably made somewhere in Asia; it's difficult to track down. Lenovo is a giant multi-national with a fascinating history (wiki it!) that caught my attention when they bought IBM's consumer division a while ago.Why not buy directly from Lenovo? As I write this, the price is roughly comparable, but Lenovo's order fulfillment and shipping were a full week slower than Amazon Prime through which I ordered my second monitor - otherwise, no difference.Among comparable QHD monitors, the closest competitor I considered was the Dell Ultrasharp 25 inch U2518D at almost twice the price. The reason to buy this monitor is because of the outstanding resolution (2560 by 1440.) Small font text is easily readable (but don't confuse this with the 4k OLED res on your phone or laptop; it's not "retina-limited.".) The color reproduction is excellent (I test this by looking at 4k nature YouTubes.)The low reflectivity surface works well to eliminate glare. The thin surrounding bevel on the monitor is great. Contrast and brightness are also great. (I haven't tested the AMD FreeSync capability, but with a 75 Hz refresh, it's probably suitable for at least casual gamers. (I'm a staid old academic; things move slowly in my world.)I've tested it with both the HDMI 1.4 socket and the usb-c socket; they both work well. I'm also able to charge my HP laptops directly from the (included) usb-c cable connected to the monitor. (That is, only my monitor needs to be plugged in and not the laptop.) But note the experience of some Apple Macbook users to the contrary. The built-in stereo speakers work, but at 3 watts apiece you're not going to fill a concert hall - they're just barely adequate doodads. The stand is just fine; it doesn't wobble. But, if you need more degrees of freedom, then just substitute another VESA mount. (There are tons available at Amazon.)Summary: a stunning buy! I have run through all the suggested tech support and the monitor has simply died after 8 months. It was on an APC surge protector and there has been no surge (all other equipment on APC is fine). The power simply will not come on. Cord is fine, outlet is fine. The tech support by phone is non existent. Will net purchase Lenovo again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great screen
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 30, 2021
I spent hours searching the internet for the right screen to link up to my Macbook Air.
This one was the best I could find that combines quality with economy.
The pixels per inch is not as high as my Macbook Air, but I couldn't find any 4K monitors that were the size I wanted of 24". And if you go up to 27" they also jump up in price and the bigger size also lowers the PPI anyway.

I love that it can charge my Macbook Air while I am using the screen, even when the Macbook is closed, I can still use it, which is handy considering I don't have space on my desk for the Macbook to be open (see picture).

One of the USB 3 ports can also be used to charge, which is handy because I use my iPad mini as a second screen using an app called Duet.

So for a high PPI 24" screen with USB-C charging it was the best price I could find. Happy with it so far.
