I'm updating my review as I recently got asked "whats that rubber smell ?".You all need to understand that the back of the over is a simple sheet of formed tin. There is no double wall, there is no external temp dampening. The back of it will get just as hot as the inside of it. ANY POWER CABLE(S) PUSHED AGAINST THE BACK OF THE OVEN WILL MELT, AND ARE A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. PLEASE KEEP THE BACK AT LEAST 4" FROM THE WALL, AND DO NOT LET ANYTHING COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE BACK WALL.PROS:- Cool brushed dark grey finish (it's not black).- The LED readout has a near black background with light blue display.- The door closes with a quiet bump. It's sound-dampened.- The door has a solid feel to it.- The grills and baskets slide into metal slots instead of wall patterns, which is more like a regular oven.- The LED light is awesome (how's its plastic cover doesn't melt is a mystery for the ages).- The quartz elements are great, and are awesome for fast heat-ups.- It "emulates" a top shelf feel.CONS:- The round knobs/dials are plastic and covered with a tinnish metal overlay to emulate true die-cast metal dials. So to be clear, the dials ARE NOT CAST METAL...they are plastic, styled to look that way.- The plastic knobs wobble a bit, detracting from the "top shelf" vibe.- Having to be there to push the start button a second time AFTER the pre-heat has done is dumb. If you're not there to push it after the pre-heat it will just stop and nothing gets cooked.- The light shuts off after around 20 seconds after pressing its button. I like it not staying on indefinitely, but a minute would be better.- The BACK GETS VERY HOT (no insulation - just the oven wall) so don't let any cords touch it, or they will melt. Arrange the back wiring so nothing touches the back of the oven.- The walls and top also cannot be touched while its running, so be aware.It's a 3 1/2-star device that wants to be 4 or more stars. I would of gladly paid the extra dollar or two for true die-cast metal controls. That is a cop-out and annoys the crap out of me. They knew better, but did it anyway.The back has no structure. It's just the oven wall against whatever is behind the oven. It's is a potential fire hazard. I feel the need to look behind every time I use it. Power cords will melt against the back, and then who knows...

As someone who lives in the South and spends most of my time trying to avoid the outside heat, I am an avid user of toaster ovens so that I don't have to use any more electricity than necessary to cool my home (especially in the summer). This is probably my 5th toaster oven in 10 years (they never seem to hold up to my chronic use). Anyway, I decided to try this toaster oven due to the size and what appeared to be the ease of use, and also the different functions. I have had it for over a month now and I use it daily. This particular oven is the biggest I have ever owned and I am happy with the size - it does fit comfortably on my kitchen counter, but if you have a smaller kitchen it may not work. The functions are pretty standard for this type of toaster oven (although it does have a dehydrate function which I have not seen before and which I have yet to use). I like the fact that the buttons and the knobs are fairly intuitive and pretty much anyone can figure out how to use this toaster oven without deep knowledge of the unit. That being said, there is one thing I do NOT like about this oven and my husband can attest to the stupidity of this: Once the oven is preheated, you must press the 'Start' button again for the timer to start working and for the oven to continue to heat. If you fail to do this, the oven will not heat and you will end up with raw or still frozen food after you thought that the food should be finished cooking. I do not know why Calphalon decided to require that you hit 'Start' again after the oven has pre-heated (rather than just continuing the cook cycle like most other toaster ovens), but it is a pain in the arse if you are not paying attention. Otherwise, the heat settings do work as they are supposed to. I usually cook bacon in my toaster oven and in other toaster ovens usually my settings are at 375 degrees in the bake mode for 15-17 minutes (depending on the unit) to get perfectly brown crisp bacon. In this unit, I can set it for 375 degrees in the bake mode, for 16 minutes and it makes perfectly brown crisp bacon. The oven is easy to clean and I like the fact that there is a tray underneath that I can pull out to clean any drippings or crumbs on the bottom (my last Cuisinart did not have this tray and it was a PITA to clean). Overall, so far this is a very good buy and I am happy with the purchase. It is priced well considering its size and functions. The only question is how long will it last compared to my other toaster ovens.

First time using it and like another person said it seems to lose a little heat when a colder item is placed in it but it turned out not to be so bad for me as I just kept it in longer and crispiness was not a concern. Also set timer immediately. It's different from an over where you set the degrees and walk away to come back to a ready oven. Of you don't set the timer it will cut off. That may be a benefit for some. I baked enchiladas. As usual the meat, veggies were already fully cooked at the time of actual baking but it did seem much more convenient, less hot in my kitchen and I know I am saving money because my old oven took so much time just to reach 350. This took about 3-4 mins which I appreciate. It is a pretty appliance and comes with useful additions. My basic glass Tupperware (the average rectangle one..not the long one) fit perfectly with room to spare. I'm happy so far. I may try to make low carb chips from tortillas tomorrow. If they come out crispy and quick I will be in love!

Note - Amazon is mixing together the reviews of different models with different features and specifications. It does this to fool you into thinking there are more buyers than there really are. One star off for odd quirky user interface and beep that is not loud enough. The fan has to be reset to run each time you bake if power was interrupted. The fan is very very quiet, you have to open the door in a quiet room to hear it and the flow is barely adequate to call this convection. I bought this because of its lower 1300 watt rating which is less likely to blow a breaker when other things are turned on in the same circuit. [2022 model has 1500 watts] 1300 IS enough power even when the oven is full and it warms reasonably fast. This will barely take a 12 inch pizza using the pan provided. I frequently use four small mini-loaf pans for fast baking. They pretty much all heat the same without rotating them. If you fill a tray with french fries there is one area that browns a bit faster. This does air fry with the provided basket but the wimpy fan means more time needed. I have used this almost a full year now as my only oven. The LED light is useful but like the other controls, you have to learn the quirk of holding down the light button or tap it twice to get it to light for a 10 second timed period.

I use a toaster oven most of the time to do the same things that I would otherwise use the full oven for. Much more energy efficient and more precise. This one has lots of bells and whistles that so far make it very versatile. I ha e had another Calphalon countertop oven that I have used almost every day for maybe 10 years, so very durable too.
