Throw away the holster it comes with
I’ve only had it for a day and fortunately haven’t needed to use it, but just a warning if you buy this… take the nylon holster out of the package, and put it right in the trash. For starters, the design is awful. I was afraid that even just casually walking my dog around the neighborhood with this on my belt that the flashlight/taser would slip out from the holster. There’s literally nothing but an elastic strap holding the front and back together, plenty of room for the flashlight to slip through, especially if you’re jogging or moving in anything but a gentle stride. I haven’t had a chance to buy something better to carry it in though but needed to carry it with me while being discrete about it during the daytime, so just having it in my hand would have been awkward. No problem… one lap around the neighborhood ought to be alright, even with the poor design, right?Wrong. Got literally two houses down the street and heard it hit the ground. Surprisingly it was still in the holster… it didn’t slip out, the belt loop broke right off. Can you say cheap garbage?Anyway, aside from a scratch on the finish, the flashlight still functions fine and the taser works as it should, so it seems to have survived the fall ~3’ to the pavement. The holster shouldn’t be the reason you buy this in the first place. Get rid of it, find a better option for carrying it, and pat yourself on the back for not falling for the 10,000,000 volt hype advertisements almost all of the other brands tout. Assuming the Sabre advertising is correct and accurate, this thing should deliver a powerful enough shock to buy you a little time or possibly scare off an attacker (be it man or animal)I don’t have anything really to compare it to, so these are just my first impressions, but I do kinda wish it was louder. My 15lb pooch is unfazed by the sound it makes, even inside the house. Whether or not the 80 lb pitbull that gets out from the neighbors yard would be deterred by the sound alone remains to be seen (hopefully never), but I do feel slightly more comfortable carrying both lethal and non-lethal defense when we go on our walks around the neighborhood.I do notice that black tape seems to be part of the construction both towards the light/taser end and the rear/switch end… for the price, I’m looking at it as something that will just be a yearly or bi-annual purchase and that’s fine. Until I’m ready to drop big bucks on something in the professional league, I suspect this is about as good as it gets in the <$100 category.
