'Sees' Your Room and Maps Most Efficient Cleaning Path

Patented LaserSmart mapping and navigation technology sets Botvac D80 on a course to clean carefully, instead of merely moving around. It scans the room, senses objects in real-time, and determines the most efficient path.

SpinFlow System Picks Up More of What Lands On The Floor

Combines powerful vacuum suction and precision brushes to leave floors immaculately clean. Botvac D80 effortlessly picks up stuff like dirt, crumbs, dust bunnies, and pet hair. And with its D-Shape design and CornerClever technology, Neato gets to where dirt hides-in corners and along walls.

Returns to Charge Base As Needed

When Botvac D80 runs low on power, it automatically goes to the charge base. When it’s powered up, it returns to where it left off and finishes the job.

Does The Work For You

Simply push start or automatically schedule cleanings. Botvac D80 automatically vacuums multiple rooms on its own, effortlessly transitioning from room to room and from one floor surface to another.

Extra-Large Bagless Dirt Bin

Its extra-large, bag-less 0.7-liter dirt bin holds more dust and dirt than round vacuums and is easy to empty. Simply lift the bin out of the top of the robot and dump the contents into the trash. There’s less mess than with smaller bins that slide out from the side or underneath the robot.

Easy-to-Schedule Automatic Cleaning

Use the easy Auto-Schedule display screen and controls to set up a schedule that works for you. When you want a quick spot-clean or a thorough multi-room clean that isn't scheduled, just push start.

Maneuvers Around Furniture and Obstacles

As Botvac D80 scans the room, it senses objects in its path, like furniture and toys, and carefully navigates around them. It even detects and avoids stairs. Simple drop down, easy-to-use boundary markers keep it away from places you don’t want it to go.

Cleans Where Others Can’t

Hugs walls and gets under furniture where dust bunnies hide. With its unique D-shape design and 50% larger brush than round robots, Botvac D80 cleans within 10 millimeters of the wall. Plus, its low profile allows it to clean under beds and in other hard-to-reach places where dust bunnies collect.

Decent, but serious flaws for long haired pets

Decent, but serious flaws for long haired pets
I read tons of reviews here on Amazon and other reputable sites before purchasing this Neato D-series model, touted as "the high-performance robot vacuum, specially designed to pick up all types of hair—ideal for homes with pets." I was cautiously optimistic, but I would advise people with dogs who shed a lot of long hair to stay away from this model and possibly all other robotic vacuums. There still isn't a solution out there for us yet. Here's why.First off, our household has two Shepherds, one long haired Shiloh Shepherd and the other a short haired German Shepherd (see mugshots), each are over 100 pounds and are groomed every few weeks. If we don't vacuum for a week, our house turns into the old West with tumbleweeds rolling across the floor when the wind blows. ::Cue music:: (This is not hyperbole.) If you have a Husky, you know what our short haired dog sheds like; you touch her fur and watch it start snowing. The long haired one is a whole other story, which I'll get to in a bit, and probably has slightly longer hair than the length of a Husky's. We have a combination of laminate, carpet, tile, plus area rugs and runners in a home with ~1100 square feet being vacuumed on the first floor. The house was vacuumed thoroughly with an upright Miele Twist before running the Neato about 18 hours later, giving us nearly a full day's worth of dog hair.Sadly, these vacuums don't have nearly enough power to get up the majority of hair we deal with on a daily basis. The Neato does a decent job of reigning in the mess (see picture of bin), but there is still a lot of hair which gets missed and it's quite visible (see pictures of area rugs). One pass with our upright Miele and there's no more hair anywhere, but that one doesn't have to worry about battery life. The bigger issue I have with this model is related to its very tagline of "specially designed to pick up all types of hair." I disagree wholeheartedly with that assessment, particularly relating to dogs with long hair. The combo brush which they state "offers superior pick-up of pet hair on all floor types" may work marginally better than the spiral blade brush, but you'll spend significantly more time picking hair out of it (see picture). In fact, I only spent a few seconds cleaning the spiral blade brush, compared to about 15 minutes on the combo brush using a needle for the edge where the hair gets wrapped around the shaft (see pictures). I couldn't believe just how much hair was wrapped around it! I'm not sure that our floors have any additional hair on them after the spiral brush is used, so the heavy duty brush cleaning requirement feels like wasted effort. After you finish cleaning that, you'll be cleaning the spinning side brush. This brush worries me because I'm wondering a few things about it's design and function. Looking at the clump of twisted black bristles and hair, I'm concerned how long this side brush is going to last before needing to be replaced from all the bristles I have to pull out with the knotted hair (see picture of clump). I'm also wondering if this clump is doing any damage to the fibers in the rug or carpeting. Lastly, how effective is that brush once that clump has formed, especially considering this happens at some point during the vacuuming every single time. There has to be a better design they can come up with to replace the bristles. You'll also be vacuuming the filter after every cleaning session because the hair just gets stuck to the filter itself (see before and after pictures). I hesitate to think what the suction would be reduced to if the filter wasn't vacuumed every day. I'm also wondering if any hair is getting up inside the chassis where the main wheels attach, but I don't want to take the vacuum apart yet. Hopefully this is just me being overly concerned.Overall, if you have small dogs or cats, or large dogs with short(er) hair (e.g. Husky, Pibble, Rottie, etc.), you'll probably be fine with the Neato D series. You may only need to vacuum about once a month or maybe even longer. However, if you have long haired dogs (or cats?), lower your expectations significantly. You're still going to be vacuuming every week or so and that long hair is going to wreak a bit of havoc on the Neato's moving parts and cleaning it will take up a decent amount of time. I'm not looking forward to shedding season.

I was pretty skeptical about the robot vacuums. I didn't think they could possibly be that good or navigate their way around a house without all sorts of intervention. However, after adopting our third dog in April, we were going crazy with all the dog hair and dust (we live in Hill country in TX which is super dusty). After hearing from a friend who has multiple dogs that she loved her robot vacuum, I thought I'd do some research and give one a try.

So I purchased the Neato after much review reading.
The Neato MORE than exceeds my expectations, I absolutely LOVE this vacuum. It is able to vacuum my entire 2,200 square foot house in two runs with usually no intervention at all other then to empty the dust bin in between charging. I have concrete floors with thick wool area rugs. It maneuvers over it all with no issues. It even vacuums the small bathroom rugs. I thought my cattle dog would go crazy chasing it since he absolutely hates the normal vacuum and barks and bites it. Amazingly enough, none of my 3 herding dogs even blink at it. Sometimes they barely get out of the way when it hits them.

I chose the Neato for a few reasons;
1) The "D" shape allows it to get in close under kickboards of cupboards and next to the walls and in corners, whereas the round ones cannot.
2) It's dust bin is larger than the round robots and believe me, it gets filled up.
3) This particular brand figures out a 'pattern' rather than haphazardly bouncing around. Because of this, it is able to cover all the floor space with only 1 charging in between. I read that many of the other brands cannot cover that much ground because of the way they bounce around and waste battery power vacuuming the same space over and over.
4) It was recommended as being especially good for pet hair. Not sure why; perhaps the larger dust BIN? Either way, it does suck up all the dog hair and dust and awful stickers the dogs drag in.

Getting Stuck:
I am so surprised how little it does get stuck. It is even able to back it's way out of tight spaces and behind doors. I have found that if I keep the dust bin clean (empty and even wipe out the dust after each charging), it doesn't get confused or stuck. I also replace the filter pretty often.
The first couple of times vacuuming, I'm embarrassed to say, but it got filled up to overflowing before finishing. I had to stop it to empty it several times. Keeping it clean (not overflowing with the hair and dirt seems to be the key).

I do a little prep work before vacuuming.
1) Moved electric cords out of the way (did this the first time and now it's good to go)
2) Pick up dog toys and shoes (anything loose on the floor that could get sucked up)
3) One of my sofas clearance to the floor is low enough so the vacuum gets stuck. I hang a blanket throw down in front of the sofa to touching the floor and now it does not attempt to go under that sofa. I just leave it that way.
4) Turn the chairs on my dining set sideways so it can get through and under the table, The back two legs of each dining chair is too narrow for the vacuum, so by turning them sideways, it can get through and vacuums under the table..

These things in my opinion are a small price to pay to have EVERYTHING vacuumed. Under my bed and over the wool rugs, no issues. I have used this vacuum every single day since I bought it; nearly 3 months ago. No more dust and dog hair floating around. And it always finds it way back to the charging station. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! Did I say I love this? If it wears out in 1 year, I will have no regrets and would buy it again in a heartbeat! Though I have high hopes it will last a while.

I have no qualms in recommending this particular vacuum. And BTW, the filters can be purchased fairly inexpensively, so no reason to pay $ 100.00 + more for the D85 versus the D80.

UPDATE TO UPDATE:
DO NOT BUY In case anyone really reads these, I was able to get my not-working Neato replaced with another non-working Neato. Upon attempting to remedy the new situation I was informed that the warranty had expired on the replacement so they would do nothing. Per the email I had 90 days for the warranty on the replacement, it has been under 60 day since I've received the replacement...DO NOT BUY or expect to be screwed out of your money too.
UPDATE:
Don't waste your money. Less than a year old and it stopped working. Initially it wasn't going out on it's scheduled times (as mentioned originally), then it started sitting on it's charging base in alarm with a message "Turn Switch by dust bin to On position" or something like that. The switch that you pretty much never turn off once you first get it, yeah that one. I was able to force it to go out and clean by holding the "house" button down for a short time which completely negates the "schedule" ability. Next it started with the random stopping, alarm with the message "Press Start to continue", after which it would fire up all the systems and then shut down again. Attempted to contact customer service via email (as that's about all I have time for) but no response. Previously I was on the fence about whether I'd buy another Neato product, but after this..no more.

Mixed on this. I had an older model which worked well until someone stepped on it and broke the display. I decided to replace it with this newer model. We had the older model set to go Monday thru Friday at a set time while we were at work. Occasionally I would find it stuck somewhere it didn't belong, but after moving things and using the magnet strips I had pretty much removed all of the obstacles which troubled the bot.
This one, however...If I get home from work and find this one on it's base, I have to check it's dust bin to make sure it actually went out and cleaned! It's very rare that I come home and not have to begin the search to find where it decided to get stuck this day. As others have mentioned, it struggles with any round based feet, such as those on tables or fans. It likes to wedge itself into areas it cant fit, both height and width, and when it discovers it can't remove itself, it decides to wedge itself even further (mine managed to dent the blue disk covering it's laser sensors on top). After arguing with my wife I convinced her to allow me to put down the magnet strips in the open, around the objects which it's frequently stuck on. No good. The thing just pushes them out of the way and proceeds to get stuck behind the strips on the object. On our tiled floor I tried taping them down with clear tape...that looked much better, 3ft brown strip on beige tile with shiny clear tape holding it to the floor, I'm sure no one even noticed! Most frustrating place that it continues to get stuck is under the cabinets, just enough space for it not to trip the bumper-sensor but low enough that once it's under the 2in lip, it cant get out. Also, it struggles with small drops. We have 2 thresholds with a 1/2in drop, it goes down with no problem but is unable to return, and of course the magnet strips are useless with this as well.
A couple Pro's and Con's:
Pro's:
Easy setup and easy use
Quiet (compared to our previous model)
Cleans well
Programmable
Automated, even if it requires babysitting.

Cons:
Gets stuck EVERYWHERE
Magnet strips, when they work, are still unsightly.
Filter/Dust bin -big enough for our house but cleaning is a pain and can get dust everywhere if you bang the filter.
The AI and room mapping. I had hoped it would have a room memory at this price or at least the ability to not bang into the wall over and over when it gets confused (as others have mentioned)
Overall, I like the convenience but will be skeptical to buy another Neato after this one, not enough has improved mechanically or technologically...or price-ally. I still suggest the Neato brand over others that I've seen but not with the enthusiasm I did with the older model.

5.0 out of 5 stars First impressions are really good!

Just received it a few days ago. It looks gorgeous in person and it looks and feels like it has excellent build quality.

I have a small 1096 sqft single floor hard flooring house and it has no problems. It maps each room easily and quickly, it then cleans the room really well. It appears to have excellent sensors that can pick up pretty much anything in it's path (The exceptions are thing table and chair legs, these the sensor doesn't see but the bumper stops it)

It's nice and quite, yet it picks up pretty much everything on my hard flooring. It's also quite agile at climbing over small obstacles and not getting stuck.

It returns to it's docking station after it's finished and does a cute little "happy chirp"

1.0 out of 5 stars 3 Month in and our NEATO is NADA - back to manual vacuuming... don't waste your money!
Reviewed in Canada on November 25, 2017
Loved our Neato for all of 3 months. Now our Neato is Nata... It worked just long enough for the Amazon return window to close...

At the beginning it was amazing. We had it scheduled to clean 3 days a week and it flawlessy cleaned, returned to its base and recharged without any intervention from us other than to empty it's tray, which it regularly encouraged us to do with its little polite bleeps and on-screen messages.

It cleaned really well picking up loads of dirt, dust, crumbs and hair. It burrowed under couches, dug into corners, navigated under chairs and avoided pitfalls like staircases. We were really impressed with Neato and were proud bot parents until...

Three months in, it started to get stuck regularly under the couch. It seemed to become more aggressive crawling over top of things and backing itself up into corners climbing the baseboard and getting itself stuck. In addition to what appeared to be a new previously unseen aggressive behaviour, it is now regularly got confused spinning in circles, unable to find its way to its charging station and sitting forlorn in the middle of the room bleeping helplessly and begging for someone to carry it back to it's charging station. It also seemed to lose it's ability to apply a logical cleaning pattern. Where it had previously sought out the boundaries of a room and then methodically moved back and forth in the large open spaces to clean, it now missed large swaths and seemed to randomly move to different rooms to clean without properly completing the room it started in.

We've tried gently cleaning the senors on Neato's side as well as the LIDAR scanner lens with q-tips and a soft cloth. We've cleaned and dusted it's rollers, brush and interior to no avail. We've tried resetting it (physical switch, shutdown menu) nothing seems to help it return to its former self. We've gone to the Neato website looking for guidance and support and found it to be sparse and unhelpful. Can't even find details about the specific model (D80) we purchased and how to reset it. Going to try to pursue the warranty and repair route now... wish us luck. I will report back on our experience with that. Hopefully the Neato company will redeem itself. Let's see what happens...

We bought the Neato for all the rave reviews we read. For the money spent on this, we could have hired a human to clean during the 3 month period Neato actually worked and saved some money and the headaches. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON NEATO - 3 MTHS of 3 DAY-A-WEEK VACUUMING IS NOT A REASONABLE RETURN ON THE INVESTMENT. Oh and almost forgot the first Neato shipped didn't even turn on out of the box. It had error codes displayed on-screen when we tried to turn it on. Had to return and exchange it for a new one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended robot vacuum that doesn't replace your manual vacuum but comes darn close!
Reviewed in Canada on November 11, 2017
This is a very smart vacuum, better than other competitors in its class. I've been using it for almost a year and haven't had any issues. It sucks up dust and hair in its path. I have a newborn and it's amazing to have a "robot" clean your house while you're doing other things. Makes you feel like you're living in the future!

What I like about it:
* Very smart, will leave its base, find the edge of a room, and trace a path around the room. Then it will systematically clean the room in neat lines. I also bought an iRobot Roomba, which made a lot of noise and seemingly cleaned at random, bouncing from wall to wall like a ping pong ball. This is way smarter.
* The shape allows it to get into corners easily, unlike the Roomba I tried which was a circle, and left dust in the corners of the room
* Because of the way it cleans (in lines), gives carpets that "just vacuumed" look
* Will find its base to charge when it runs out of energy, and then finish the room when it's fully charged
* Avoids tumbling to its death on stairs and other edges
* The bin is relatively easy to clean, with a caveat (see below)
* Comes with a little comb to clean the filter, and boundary markers to stop it from going places you don't want it to

What can be improved:
* Can easily get stuck on cords or other objects of similar profile, making it hard to just leave on its own
* Can sometimes get stuck in tight spaces and spend several minutes trying to get out, before giving up and beeping for help
* Sometimes rubs against furniture as it passes. It hasn't happened yet but I'm worried about it leaving marks
* Emptying the bin is easy, but the way its designed requires you to remove the filter first. The filter needs some force to remove, which can result in all the dust and dirt coming out quickly. To remedy this, I remove the filter in a bag to ensure the dust falls into something and not back on the floor. A minor annoyance
* Sometimes I'll come home and find it stuck on something, which is another minor annoyance because you have to make sure your floors are free of any cords before you can let it lose. For this reason, I don't schedule it when I'm away from home.

What to know before purchasing:
* This vacuum is loud, as all vacuums are, making it hard to schedule it to clean at night
* Does not come with a smartphone app, but an app isn't needed since you can schedule it to clean from the screen

its a good robot do a good job if use everyday. but its a bit slow and hes dumb because (forget to go someplace or even sometime some entire room) he wont rememver your house layout his second mode doesn't do a real square around is starting point and because its dosent scan the entire room there no function of doing your room row by row. the bright side is it dose a good job if use everyday my house is kleen work well with all my pet hair and human hair is easy to use and it work both really good on rug and hard floor.
