Customers find the hydroponics system easy to set up with clear instructions and appreciate its compact size that fits well on dressers and workbenches. The plants grow quickly, and the system is well-built. However, the functionality and value for money receive mixed reviews - while some say it works well and consider it good value, others report the pump only works for a few minutes and find it not worth the investment. Moreover, the noise level and light lifespan are concerns, with customers reporting loud pumps and lights breaking within two weeks.

Great for a novice, simple and no frills
I’m retired and because of the pandemic, I thought I’d try something new. After scanning the net for hydroponic indoor growing systems, I found the IDOO system and ordered it from here. I received it and set it up quickly and effortless. The directions were well written and easily understood. I decided to try similar well known pods that contained seeds. I did this because all of my previous attempts to grow anything resulted in failure. I should note here that all previous attempts were done outside and none hydrophobic. I also chose these pods because they were guaranteed to grow. I filled it with a combination of filtered and tap water. There was a maximum fill slat across the fill hole as well as a label inside the tank displaying the liters and max fill line. Nice touch. Although the initial setup was done at 1 PM, I decided to restart the IDOO at 6 AM the following morning. The reason for this was that I wanted the lights on at 6 and off at 8 PM. This was the default cycle of 14 hours for the light system. Regarding the light system and telescoping pole it’s attached to; I found it a little tight to increase its length, so I took a silicone lubricant and sprayed it lightly on a paper towel then applied it to the first of two extensions. I also left about 1” from the full down position. This allowed easy access to eventually increase the height of the lights. The IDOO system is working perfectly and the lights come on exactly at 6 every morning. Because I found a ton of online videos relating to indoor hydrophobic growing, I purchased the following items to aid in my hopeful success: A ph tester, siphon, tomato pods from a competitor’s that fit perfectly and contained clear plastic domes for the pods. I also used clear plastic tape to seal unused pod holes on the IDOO system. Although I have not seen sprouts yet ( only 2 days) I am hopeful that my previous ‘Black thump’ turns into a thriving ‘Green Thumb’. UPDATE after 4 day's; I planted two Tiny Tim Tonato seeds and left the rest of pod holes open. Both have sprouted. I will update this review as appropriate. New update: 3 weeks since planting tomato plants, they are growing straight, strong and over 4” high. I am so pleased with the IDOO hydroponic growing system, purchased a second one. To end this, so far I’m am pleasantly surprised with the IDOO Hydrophobic Grow System for the quality and price.

I was NOT paid to leave a positive review, I was NOT given a discount for a positive review. I paid full price for it and genuinely love this hydroponic system.

This hydroponic garden is an amazing cheaper version of aerogarden! The only difference is that aerogarden actually pumps the water through the top and onto the grow sponges, and idoo just pumps it (moves it) without sending it through the top. It seems to work just fine (and cleaner). It was easy to set up, the instructions are not perfect but clear enough to understand. The device is very light, there's a fill line inside the tank if the grow deck is off and also under the grey cap where you top off your water.

I didn't use the nutrients it came with. I used the aerogarden nutrients because that's what I used to start the tomato plants and didn't want to shock them.

The first 2 pictures I took October 7th, the third picture was taken today, 3 days later, October 10th. I moved the plants into IDOO from my aerogarden October 6th, they only had the sprouting leaves on them. On the 7th, when I took the pictures, they started growing true leaves. And now they have a few.

The little holes diagonally to the pod holes are not holes but indents. I can put skewers in them and make trellises for my tomatoes when they need them.

Overall I love this "aerogarden". I will definitely get a few more of them for my herbs and lettuce. Great quality for a great price.

    -UPDATE- February 8, 2021.
My only complaint about the idoo is the timer. It turns the light on and off whenever it feels like it. When I set 16/10, the first few days it will turn on at the time I set it on, after that it will be on at 3 am or whenever else it feels like it. I don't think I'll be getting any more of these after all. I'll stick to aerogarden.

It was easy to set up although the light functions can be a little fussy. I bought two of them. Both were missing additional food packets in list of items in their ad. When contacted, the company responded asking for information on the bottom of the units. That was a problem since both had seeds growing in them on my kitchen counter and the units were full of water. A bigger problem is the amount of space between the plant sponge tops and the light bar is about 6". When the plants get about an inch beneath the light bar, the tops of the plants get destroyed by the light. I had to transplant pepper plants, tomatoes and basil to dirt in order to save the plants. The germination is excellent. I already have more plants in the units but will transplant them before they can be damaged by the light bar. While I wouldn't buy them again or give them as gifts without specific details, it is an easy system to use. I have a big garden area and friends with gardens. This sponge system works better for me than small pots, dirt and watering consistency. They're about 50 cents each and easily transportable to garden or friends. I bought them for my kitchen counter and easy availability to herbs and tomatoes and it can't be used in that way. The rating is 4 because it grew strong, healthy plants in a short amount of time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lights stopped working after 2 days
Reviewed in the Netherlands on February 11, 2022
    Hello,

After one month of buying this product as a Christmas present to my girlfriend the lights stopped working completely and no matter what we attempted would not come on, causing all of her plants to die and her present to go to waste. I attempted researching online and found no solution, I also tried contacting customer service, but received no response which is very unfortunate

Ideally the team behind the product would at least contact me so that we can process a new light component or replacement altogether, but that has not happened.

Because of that and my bad experience I am giving this a very bad rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 23, 2022
Ordered it a few months ago and used it to both sprout some peppers and transplant them out and I'm also growing 2 in the growing system itself. It's been fun.

    The not so good:
The sponge containers have this rounded off square shape (squircle?) that differ from most replacements that are circular. From what I understand, this model is a bit outdated/abandoned and they moved to the circular containers in the bigger/newer models. It was hard to hunt down a replacement pack and I ended up ordering from Amazon DE. The sponges are also a bit thicker and not so tall as other brands and it makes it hard to find a good fit replacement.
The distance between each cutout isn't all that big so don't expect to grow really big bushy plants.
There are no caps for unused cutouts and the shape makes it hard to fill them with something like a ball. I've resorted to improvising a few myself as to keep the light, air and potential contaminants out of the growth medium.
I don't think (might have to look into this further) that you can remove the light fixture completely and still have the pump working. At a certain point, it's just strangulating the plants and it would be nice to remove it and just let them live off of ambient light. Since the controls for the pump are on the light fixture, it might not be possible. I'm thinking of just rotating it around to keep it out of the plant's way (haven't tried it yet).
Changing the light mode or turning off or on the light, resets the "timer" for the ON and OFF periods.

    The good parts:
It's fun to use and really easy to assemble. It only took me a few minutes and a few glances at the manual, to decide on what type of light I want.
The pump is extremely silent and seems to be doing a good job. It's moving the nutrients and water around pretty well.
The included package has good quality sponges that didn't disintegrate in the water, nor did they prove to be too hard for the plants to root in.
They come with some transparent caps that help to keep moisture inside, a few sticks to help keep your plants straight and a few "name" signs that you can put into the body of the IDOO. There are a few cutouts for both the name tags and the plastic sticks that you can use.
The light was decently strong and the plants grew nice and healthy. Some bigger models seem to even have a small fan on the top, to help pollenate the plants.
The container itself is pretty sturdy and arrived without a scratch. Good quality packaging.

It's fun for someone looking to start a mini garden or just play a bit with technology and plants.

The main problem is with timer, in short one day for its timer is less than 24 hours, is around 23.5 hours.
Which means everyday the time of light turned on will be 30 min earlier (like today it lights 8:00, tomorrow 7:30), and within a week it will be 3 hours earlier, this is a problem.
    Other stuff seems works good
