Good product made of sub-optimal plastic
I have purchased four or five of these Kitty Kaps over the last 4 years and use them daily. Only one of them is intact.They do their job very well. I only use two of the four sizes the cap fits, but it is still nice to only need one cap.The problem is with the material the caps are made of. The plastic used to manufacture them has changed over the years I've been buying them, and the current (Fall 2019) material is hard and brittle. It doesn't flex enough. When putting the top on, I have to press down hard with the heel of my hand to get the cap to snap in place and seal the can. This probably makes them last longer provided you don't do what I did to the gray one.The gray cap in the picture is one of the newer ones and broke when I was putting it on a small (3 ounce) can. I was pressing down hard over the rim of the can and my palm rolled off the side of the can and the cap snapped. As an aside,the blue cap in the background of the picture is on a large (5.5 ounce) can which goes all the way out to the edge of the cap.The pink cap is an older one. The plastic is softer and much easier to use. It doesn't take excessive force to close the cap. It failed over time due to repeated stress in opening and sealing the smaller cans i use most often. I almost certainly used the outer ring of the cap as a handle to remove the cap. It probably would have lasted longer if I had always used the cat ears to remove the cap as the ears reinforce the cap and reduce flex when removing the cap, but I never paid attention to how I was opening it.I wash them in the dishwasher on the top rack. That might reduce the life a bit, but it's worth it for the easy cleaning.I put the cap on and off about once a day, and they seem to last about a year. For a little over a dollar, that's good enough. It could certainly be better, but it's the best option I've found and I'll be buying another one soon.
