I bought this for travel, as many of my trips take me to the woods or to jungles where being sure I have light is a big deal. I also like to find owls and other night animals and was looking for a light that could also do that.
This thing is AMAZING! As a general purpose light, it is easy to use, compact enough to pack easily (for me anyway), and has plenty of lumens to see anything.
As a spotlight, it has the power of a thousand suns! Of course I am exaggerating, but I bet there are at least a few blind owls in the forest because they dared look directly at the beam. (Side Note: Please PM me if you see any owls with white canes.) I have used a few different spot lights over the years, and this beats all of them when considering brightness, compactness, beam narrowing, and weight. I darn near got bit by a puff adder in Africa this past year, and the light allowed me to get a great picture of the snake in the blackest night (after I got away from it of course).
I was recently in Ghana with a nature guide who has seen many, many spotlights brought with his clients. He LOVED this light; He kept talking about it, so I left it with him to keep. You would have thought I gave him a half-million dollars...his face absolutely lit up (pun intended) with joy. When I got home, I bought another for myself.
If there was a negative, it would be that it requires 4AA batteries to use. That said, a set of batteries seems to last a long time with this unit. Personally, I don't mind carrying a few extra batteries to have the capability that this unit gives me.
Buy this light if any of the things above apply to you, it is one of the best things I have bought for travel.
