There are always places where this software is lacking each year, but this year it's got some big issues. It pulled in a wrong number on my state return. I tried to chat with tech support, but all links to a chat led me in circles. I finally gave up on finding the chat. Also, at the end of completing the federal interview, I was given directions in the software to delete a number from the tax form and then enter the number in a different location on the tax form. Is this software not capable of putting numbers into the correct location on its own?

I used TurboTax in previous years but thought I would try H&R Block's Premium software for 2018 tax year. The software is very difficult to use. The interview process is incomplete and does not tie to the forms well. Information from my federal return did not carry over properly to the state return. After spending two hours trying to find work-arounds in the software, I tried to use their help service. After wasting time on useless help menus in the program, I found a phone number to call. Their automatic phone help system goes in circles uselessly. Then the automated system gave up and told me I could speak to an agent in 30 minutes. The money I spent on the H&R Premium program was a complete waste. Stay away from H&R Block tax software.

I requested a return and completely re-did my taxes all over again with an all free online tool. They e-filed for free too. My taxes aren't the most simple (not just a 1040) but the free tool produced the same exact forms, same exact results, and I saved money. I will never be buying tax software again!

I have always used H&R Block Tax softwares to do my taxes ever since I first worked in their offices. I've used the cheaper Deluxe versions in the past but that version does not handle Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs). As a result I had to upgrade to the more expensive Premium version which is really a ploy by H&R Block to get you to buy the more expensive version to handle a tax strategy that is a simple software addition to the Deluxe. But the Deluxe version works well and is user friendly.

Easy to use but was totally surprised that the1040 form has changed so much after being the same for over 25 years. Tax law has totally changed this year - standard deductible doubled and work expenses not allowed 😯. Also, no idea why Obamacare fine is still in effect 😕. Overall this software has made the process very simple.
