Bought it early, still can't file because of missing forms.
I bought this software early this year since my wife received her W-2 at the beginning of the year. I've had it all done, but now I'm waiting on the K-1 form from Turbotax. They said it would be available Jan 30, then Jan 31, then Feb 7, and today it said Feb 14th. I have a feeling when it gets closer to Feb 14th, they will move the date again. Makes it frustrating when you just want to have it done...So now it's Feb 14th and they have changed it to "available soon". I have a feeling their "soon" and mine are not the same.
Thank you for your feedback

The draw back to using Turbo Tax or any other digital service is that it allows Congress to avoid income tax reform to
simplify the tax law. Regardless, Turbo Tax has help me do my taxes ever since the software was written for Windows DOS using Turbo Pascal programming software. Ever since then, the tax returns became more complicated and before electronic filing, the postage costs to send ever more papers to the IRS has risen dramatically; Now that Congress has reduced the IRS budget it is nearly impossible to ask a simple question from an IRS agent. Even going to the IRS office without an appointment, would you believe, getting an answer or support in what forms are required to properly and accurately enable lowering the taxes due is also impossible. Turbo Tax does make available for a fee to be able to question a professional to provide an answer. This is another sign that what was the aim of the IRS to enable the public to meet their tax reporting responsibilities without encoring costs and complete their tax returns is again becoming impractical. I strongly recommend Turbo-tax.

Have used this product for last 10 years, last 2 from amazon. I like to have the hard disks as they facilitate upgrading computers in the future. Worked fine and linked to my previous years data. For those who complain the 2018 forms are all not available, that is due to the IRS and California not releasing them yet. Turbotax updates every time you log on, and also tells you when the remaining tax forms will be available. (Some are Jan 2019.) But, you can go ahead and enter as much data as possible while waiting and TT tells you what data cannot be accepted yet (mainly property taxes). It is also bringing draft versions online as soon as possible, so that you can at least see the new forms. The main benefit of buying early is to save $20! Probably the best price this product will be offered for this tax season.

Scary to say but we've been using TurboTax for 20 years. I started with "Basic", and when I got married, bought a house and started to invest for retirement, we moved to Deluxe. This year, we started a business and bought Home & Business. As our lives have become more complex, I was doubtful that TurboTax would still work. We thought for sure we'd have to find an accountant. I WAS WRONG. TurboTax Home & Business asked all of the right questions and got us through easy as pie. It even helped us to navigate 2 state filings. This was the first year I'd bought TurboTax on Amazon, as Costco had always been a few bucks cheaper. At the same price, Amazon was an easy choice.

Ive been using TT for years. I tried HR Block one year and it was a mistake. I immediately returned to TT the following year. I used to use an expensive accountant, but approximately ten years ago I did an experiment where I used both the accountant and TT - and guess what, the return was EXACTLY the same, to the dollar. And when using an accountant, you still have to gather all of the info, which to me is the labor intensive part. Every so often I have a question TT can’t answer, but I go to the IRS.gov website and they pretty much spell out the information for any given tax situation.

A necessary evil for the ever changing taxes. I have used TurboTax software for years. It asks you questions and you fill in the amounts. I also use Quicken which helps add up the totals. However, you are responsible for the information and totals you put in. I have never had problems with this software. You will be amazed how many forms it can file off your information. It is a software I hate to buy but always am satisfied I did. One thing for sure is tax laws keep changing. It also brings forward information you need to save from year to year. I use it.

I doubt TurboTax will cut/press a new disc release for those buying the physical copy, so whether you buy it in 2018 or in early 2019, odds are the physical media release will be the same - critical updates will not be available till Mid-ish January 2019. Though possibly they may update the Download Only version with a roll-up or patch? Time will tell. I will just try to make sure that the media is ok at present then shelve it for a month.

As everyone else has already said, what with the more-confusing-than-usual new tax laws and the Dragging of Feet, some of the critical forms needed to actually USE the program won't be available till mid-January-ish 2019. I guess that isn't too bad, as I suppose TT could theoretically release updates and fixes till April 14th, so a little patience will be required. Only about a month at the time of this writing.

Trivia in regards to last year... ...in case History Repeats Itself...
I think the Rage last year was that the 2017 version of H&B had issues installing in a 64 bit environment, and Fix #1 was to use the Compatibility Tool which was included on a sub-directory on the physical disk version. I think those who had the Download Only version had to get the Compatibility Tool directly from TT's web site as it was not included with the Download Only version. The other workaround I think was to simply right-click on the install executable (ex: Setup.exe, Install.exe, etc) and install it in compatibility mode - aka as an "older" version of Windows. Hopefully they corrected the installation issues for 2018, but never hurts to be prepared.

Other trivia: State Refunds.
One issue I have noticed with previous versions of TT is trying to roll over the state refund to the following year. To do this for the federal refund is easy, but for state it seems to be tricky. It was funny to see several people ask this exact question on TT's help forums, and the Official Answer was always: "You want to roll over your STATE refund to next year? Here is how to roll over your FEDERAL refund. Problem Solved."
I did find the long and drawn out way to accomplish the task (through the menus) in 2016, but the identical steps failed in 2017. So went with the low-tech workaround. Switch to Form View of state return, right click the refund field and OVERRIDE it to type in the proper figure yourself.

Beyond that, I'd say it's worth the money each and every year. I like how it is capable of comparing previous years data with my current return - so long as I give it the previous year's data files, of course.
